Thanks for keeping interested in our Hiking Trail Series! This edition carries on from our 3rd and 4th place Conservation Halton trails that you can read here!
Now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for- what two hiking trails in Conservation Halton seem to be the best bang for your buck?
#2 Mount Nemo
Mount Nemo is by far one of the best hiking trails that Conservation Halton has to offer. The in ground caves, and the amazing lookout points are breathtaking. The south-loop trail is by far the best trail at 1-2km hike it is right along the cliff and has amazing views for 90% of the way before back-tracking back through the forest to the entrance.
The alternate trail- the north loop is very rocky and steep at some points. There is one spot where the only way to descend the rock face to continue on the trail is to hold onto the chain link tacked onto a rock to get down. This trail is 3-4km long.

#1 Hilton Falls
Hilton Falls is definitely my all time favourite hiking trail in Conservation Halton. The multiple trail loops are fantastic, and the options to mix trails together to make your perfect hike is amazing. They range from 2km on the Red Oak Trail, 4km on the Falls Trail, and 10km on the Beaver Dam Trail but they are all easy to mix and match together.
The red oak trail is a quick loop through the large pine treed forested area, with a pine carpet in the fall and spring months. This trail is very beginner and easy to walk. once you get up the hill to get onto all of the trail systems. This hill is quite steep and rocky so it is not for everyone for sure- my mom struggles to come here after her knee replacement simply because of this hill so even though the trail loop is simple, getting there is not.
The beaver dam trail is the longest trail and can be entered from by the lake up the hill, or through the falls entrance trail. Both options are great- I prefer to go through the lake entrance simply because it is quieter and there is a secret waterfall on this side of the trail. It does also pass a beaver dam- hence the name. Lastly, there is fire pits along the trail because of the length.
The Falls Trail, is by far the busiest because it brings you to the camp ground of Hilton fall’s waterfall. With a fire pit, hidden bruce trail trails near by and the falls platform, this area is beautiful.
What are your favourite spots to hike?!
