Staying Organized Month to Month

A highlight reel list of 7 perfect  ways to organize your life at the beginning of every month

We all have points in our life where we get busy. Where things that we are normally on top of, slip and become a disaster. This blog for me, is one of the things that slips when I am overwhelmed or anxious or busy with other area’s of my life. I love writing, don’t get me wrong. But with how time consuming it can be, to get the ideas from my head to my keyboard, can be challenging when you aren’t in the right headspace.

Some people struggle keeping their house clean when they are too busy for things (I am 100% guilty of this), or overlooking their significant other or leaving their car a disaster to try to save time in other area’s of their life. Working out and staying healthy with good food choices, is also something I know I struggle with when I just “don’t have the time”.

Well, if this sounds like you and you’re thinking how can I change my habits and keep my productivity and organization even in the busiest of times– this is the post you need to read start to finish, because I am going to give you ALL the secrets

Step 1: CLEAN OUT YOUR PURSE

That’s right, I said it. A woman’s purse is something that can make or break your organization. When you are out and about, it is so easy just to throw everything into the bag and not think about it. But what happens when you need something quickly and you have to dig through that Mary Poppin’s bag to find it? It is not productive and it is an added stress in your life to curve anxiety upwards in time sensitive situations. If you take 5 minutes at the beginning of each month to empty the receipts, garbage and previous seasons/months necessities and put what you will need for the next three weeks in, I promise you- your life just got a whole lot better.

Step 2: SET GOALS FOR YOURSELF

This is something new that I have been doing for myself. I write out a list of things I want to achieve at the beginning of the month, and I take 5 minutes each morning, to write down positive affirmations for the day and what I want to accomplish from my list for that day. It gives me a purpose- especially during uncertain times of quarantine, to feel like I have something that is needed each day. It’s the little things, that make a big difference in your mental health.

Step 3: PLANS WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY

When work starts to pile up and become overwhelming, the best medicine for stress is surrounding yourself with people you love. I make it a priority to reach out to at least one friend a week to go and have a visit. Whether that is a quick coffee date, running errands together, going for a hike or just hanging out around the house. It helps my mental sanity so much.

As for family, I make a conceited effort to go and visit my parents, brother and his girlfriend at least once every week. Because I live an hour away from where I work and where my family and friends are, it is so important to me to make the effort to drive into my home town after work to go and have a visit even if it is just for an hour.

Step 4: SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENTS

There is nothing worse than realizing you missed your check up or your behind on vet visits (if you’re a pet owner like me) and it makes you feel horrible. I make the effort each month to plan out when I need to go see my doctors and which ones I need to go to that month – optometrist, family and dentist or if I have to go to the bank for a financial consultation or something as miniscule as my nail appointments, as well as when my dog will need his tick medication, monthly check up etc, and call the necessary establishments on the first of each month and plan each on a day that I will be able to drive into my hometown after work and get them sorted – as well as possibly scheduling family and friends on those days too to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Step 5: BUY BIRTHDAY CARDS

This one sounds silly, but I promise you- it is life changing. I am notorious for forgetting birthday’s, so I will sit down with my calendar at the beginning of each month and look at whose birthday’s are coming up and buy my cards accordingly way in advance. It is so simple but so important that I make the people I love feel special and remembered on their days.

Step 6: DEEP CLEAN YOUR HOME

Once a month, I will take a day and spend half of it cleaning my house top to bottom. I live in a 950 sq. ft loft so it doesn’t take me very long, but I will clean everything from the cobwebs that build up to the baseboards and everything in between. It makes me feel so much more put together in my entire life because I know it is something I don’t have to worry about week to week, just one simple day a month.

Step 7: BUDGET FOR THE MONTH

This is something new I have started doing as someone who is trying to work on their personal finances. I will go to the bank at the beginning of the month and take out different denomonations and organize them in my wallet with envelopes for each budget I have. For example- groceries, I will budget roughly $300.00 for the month since we try to limit how much we eat out. I will budget $15.00 even just for my coffee runs each month and when that fund is done, its Keurig coffee for the rest of that month. I will factor in all of my bills, and budget for personal “date night” or curb my shopping habit as well in these budgets and limit myself each week. Once those funds are done, there is no more wiggle room for the rest of the month and I refuse to touch my savings. It has worked so well, I highly recommend it because money and finances is less stressful this way.
